I used to love that cartoon
But then I watched some clips recently during my nostalgia binge, and I’m like:
This is fucking awful

This has ruined so many shows I used to love

Agreed, but on the other hand: it has made some shows better. I never knew how amazing Samurai Jack was until it was cancelled and brought back. YGOTAS has made that entire franchise even better. And Avatar... Avatar was crushing it and I have to put on my armor because while inconsistent as fuck, LoK is still my preferred series.

With you on LoK (hell, I named my car after her). I think that and Avatar are of a different generation of shows though
where more focus is being put on things like cohesive, intelligent plots, continuity through the series, and enough complexity to entice viewers of all ages (the teen/young adult/adult cartoon fan is proving to be a lucrative market). So many of today’s shows are designed to be captivating and clever while still not too complex for children (Avatar, Duck Tales, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Phineas and Ferb, etc etc). If you look at shows from before the late 90s/early 2000s though there aren’t many that you can watch as an adult and go “yep, still good.” Even the classics like GI Joe, Transformers,
almost
any of the major Disney series (Gargoyles is decent), etc look simple through adult eyes. I will say WB cartoons hold up comparatively well, with their dramatic offerings having sufficient depth (Batman) and their comedic shows having the wink wink nudge nudge jokes to entertain as an adult (Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Freakazoid, etc etc).

Animaniacs still works, Tiny Toons works, Looney Toons always works, Tom and Jerry always works, ori ginal Batman Animated Series (plus Phantasm film) aging like wine...
I never liked Adventure Time after season 1 until after the series ended. It was far below my radar and I underestimated it s power, though season 6 makes me want to kill PB and I don’t get over it.
Steven Universe is almost a morbid curiosity for me. I almost like it for what it is in a vacuum, not because of what Rebecca Sugar beileves etc., etc. I had no idea that it was a safe-haven for the LGBTQ until I read about all of that, I consider myself quite dense towards recognizing any of that.
